The duo consists of two individually
talented people, Chubby and Magdi whom happened to be
married to each other.
13 years ago they joined hands in marriage not realising
what the future is holding for them musically. |

Chubby has been playing music since the
‘80s.
In 1987 roaming the streets with his friend Öcsi, a
very talented bass player Chubby spotted a beginner’s
drum kit in the window of a music shop. After checking
his bank balance, Öcsi and Chubby decided on buying the
kit, which he was scared to take home, fearing his
parents disapproval. They took the kit to Öcsi’s
apartment, where they began jamming. After almost
getting Öcsi evicted, he took the kit to another mates place where they started jamming under the name of DOUBLE
AGENT. Still self-taught and playing in a garage band Chubby
was

| unhappy with his experience as a drummer, so he decided that after getting as far as he
could by himself, it was time to get professional help. He
took lessons in music store’s studio, but didn’t
feel that he was improving as fast as he could have. In
the mean time he has upgraded his drum kit. One afternoon whilst browsing through the only Hungarian newspaper in
Australia (Hungarian Life), he has spotted an ad
of a Hungarian drum teacher.
It turned out to be István Mareczky who has been
playing drums for Hungary’s top Heavy Rock Band, P.Mobil
and was considered to be one of the best drummers in the
country.

Whilst taking lessons from ’Toto’ he
started jamming with his friend Öcsi, and his teacher
David DeWolf. The noise they made was pleasant enough to
make things more official. LCD was born.
They picked the name after the first letter of the
member’s name. Lajos, Chubby, David.
LCD had become quite a successful blues trio. David’s
melodic, virtuoso style, combined with Öcsi’s

and at times technically demanding bass lines, and
Chubby’s solid straight drum patterns earned them the
right to play in various pubs and clubs around
Melbourne. LCD had a song released on a
promotional CD in the US, which got them some airtime as
well. Chubby has spent countless number of hours at
David’s studio, Studio4, where he slowly
learned the art of recording, basic keyboard skills, and
played bass on some of his still unrealised songs.

In 1991 he met Magdi for the very first
time.
Five days later they decided to get married. It was love
at first sight. Magdi, who was on holidays at the time,
went back to Hungary to organise all the paperwork to
come back to Australia, to marry the young man she fell
for. After getting married and having their first child
together, Freddie (named after Freddie Mercury an idol
of Chubby’s),
music took the backseat for a while. (They have another
two children, Tomi,

LCD has played less and less. They stayed friends but
each did their own thing. Chubby started a solo project
whilst occasionally jamming with Öcsi and other musos.

In 1993 Chubby and three others put
together a Hungarian band and called it AKADÉMIA.
After months of rehearsals they did two shows to a
packed out room at the Hungarian Community Centre during
the ’93 Folk fest.
Soon after that ’Toto’ has come back from Hungary
where P.Mobil had their reunion concert.
Chubby got booted from the band by the selfish, self
appointed ’Band Leader’ Sándor Bella
(ex
Tejbezri) who made this ’business’ decision by

drummer to pull a
bigger crowd to follow AKADÉMIA.
They had three more shows after that and never played
together again.
These incidents have hurt Chubby deeply and he gave
music away for about eight years. He kept all his
equipment, having his beloved drum kit set up and ready
to be played wherever they lived.

In 2001 they went back home to Hungary for
six months where he got the taste for Hungarian music.
Brilliant bands, brilliant musicians, great songs. He
was pumped to get back into music again.
He started buying more studio gear and changed to
electric drums.
To get back into the swing of things he joined a band, (The
Goran Sedlar Band) and started touring with them all
over the state of Queensland. They played songs from
ELVIS to GREEN DAY and everything in-between.

Chubby is also a drummer of another group
called MOODY, playing original Rock music.
The
band is currently working on their first single, and
release of their first video clip all around Australia.

Freddie is 12 years old and follows in his
father’s footsteps playing percussion in his
school’s Junior Orchestra, as well as learning on his
own to play guitar and keyboard. His little brother Balázs
also got accepted into the Orchestra, starting this
year.
Having all this music in the family, Magdi wanted to be
part of it, suggesting Chubby to do something together
as a Duo.
They put together a short 45-minute show, which was a
success so much so, that bookings

ROMA STREET was born.
It was time to get serious again, so Chubby has put
together a three hour show, where they play some of
their very catchy original songs, and cover versions of
Hungarian songs from such bands and artists as HUNGÁRIA,
NEOTON FAMILIA, UNITED, KOMÁR LÁSZLÓ, HORVÁTH PISTA,
FEKETE SZEMEK and many others.
|
|
| They also recorded their first CD at their
own studio (Roma Studio) containing original
songs (one of them featuring David DeWolf from the
LCD era on guitars), and their versions of songs
from some of the above-mentioned artists, and a unique
version of the Hungarian National Anthem to show their
pride to be MAGYAR.
